Teamwork
Snipers is a team game. There are players who are very good at most of the game mechanics described in these guides, and are still not “pro” level. That’s usually because they’re lacking in teamwork.
You and your teammate(s) can vision for each other, lure for each other, and protect each other while flagging. You should always be aware of where your teammates are and what they’re doing. Voice chat helps a lot with this, though it’s not essential.
Sticking by your teammate
At its most basic, teamwork is just about staying near your teammate. This works well in a 2v1 situation. If one of you dies, the other will be able to shoot the enemy before they reload. This is called a “leech”, though don’t be misled by the negative name. Leeching is mostly a good thing; it means you were close enough to take advantage of your teammate’s death. It can be problematic though if you’re just constantly using your teammate as a meat shield and letting them die so you can leech, That will pad your stats, but it won’t necessarily help you win.
Vision
You and your teammates can vision for one another.
For example, if you’re on the bottom in 3v3, it’s common to have 1 or 2 people left side, and 1 pushed up deep in middle. The people left side get vision of the top left side, and the person middle can shoot enemies from the safety of the middle.
Example 2. You have 1 set up low left left side, and 1 set up low left right side. This gives you vision behind the pillar on the other side of the wall, and of people coming straight down the left side. Once it’s slightly safer, the person on the right might move up behind the pillar to get further vis.
There are lots of little setups like this you can do across the map. Great, experienced teams will do these without even having to communicate.
Luring
You and your teammates can lure for one another.
You generally want to try to separate one opponent from the others. Ideally you get them to NL you and you pull back, allowing your teammate to come in and get the kill. It’s one of the safer ways to kill someone.
Be careful not to pull back too far! In some cases the enemy will actually manage to kill your teammate, in which case you want to be close enough to the action to get the leech. If you keep pulling unnecessarily far then you’ve just converted a 2v1 into two separate 1v1s, which is easier for your opponent.
Alternating pushes
If you and your teammate are pushing up one of the lanes, there’s usually one person leading and one following. The responsibility of the one in front is to lure for the one in the back. The one in the back will typically try to QL enemies based off the front’s vision. Once you get a kill, you’ll continue pushing up the lane.
Be aware of what vision your opponents had. People will generally NL the person they see at the front (and maybe even SNL the back one). What you can do is start pushing up again, then alternate so that the front and the back switch places. This is especially effective if you know the one who was in the back wasn’t actually seen by the opponents (if they were in a blind, for example).
